The meals packaged at St. Louis World Food Day are designed to alleviate and reverse the effects of malnutrition. The cost of each meal is approximately 25 cents and includes all ingredients, packaging materials, supplies, and distribution to local and international communities. Our local partner, the St. Louis Area Foodbank oversees local and regional distribution and our international partner, Outreach Program handles the distribution of meals to a school-based feeding program in Tanzania. Each sealed package provides a nutritionally complete meal for six children (or four adults) containing:
- Vitamin-fortified whole wheat macaroni & cheese OR Missouri-grown rice: a globally accepted recognized staple, which provides the base for the meal
- Dried vegetables: a mix of carrots and other nutritious vegetables
- Soy protein;
- A vitamin and mineral packet: to be added during preparation, it contains 21 essential vitamins and minerals
Children as young as 7 can participate (when supervised by an adult). Click here for a sneak peek at the packaging and delivery process.
