At last Friday’s STL World Food Day commemoration more than 1650 St. Louisans participated as Packagers, 95 people served as Leadership Volunteers (helping with event execution), and 22 high schools (226 students) were represented at the annual High School Rally Night.
Last Friday, St. Louis came together to help feed the world! We are thrilled to report that 362,556 meals were assembled. The St. Louis Area Foodbank will distribute over 160,000 mac & cheese meals locally (I was just at the Foodbank yesterday and three pallets has already been shipped out!) and the remaining rice & bean meals will be delivered internationally by Outreach Program of Union, IA to a school-based feeding program in Tanzania.
As you know, this hunger-relief initiative is a great team-builder for businesses and groups; a memorable and fun intergenerational experience for families; and a meaningful and impactful community service activity that unites the St. Louis community. A lot of hungry people living locally and around the world are going to receive nutritious meals thanks to the philanthropic spirit that is alive and well in St. Louis.
